Mallorca – Top Tips

Top tips:
visiting Mallorca

Our very own Luxury Personal Consultant, Kirsty, decided to venture to the historic and beautiful island that is Mallorca for a 10 day getaway. Here is what she had to say and she offers her Top tips when visiting the island to enhance your stay!

“‘The last time I visited Mallorca was when I was 20 years young and it was a week filled of partying until the early hours and spending the days sleeping in the sun. This time around, it was a completely different experience. Now in my thirties I love to explore the local culture, food and find the hidden gems! We had a great balance of relaxation and exploring and I wanted to share my experiences so that you can enjoy them too!”

palma city

This was by the far my favourite day out of the whole holiday experiences. Palma City has beautiful architecture along with quirky, side street bars, divine restaurants and plenty of quality places to shop until you drop!

We decided we wanted to have a stroll and look for the beautiful Catedral De Mallorca. This is a beautiful building and it is one of the most famous monuments of the Mediterranean. It was built in the 13th century and it is one of the tallest cathedrals in Europe. Find out all about its history and beauty.

After this we decided to walk past the Palau De L’Amundaina which is surrounded by stunning gardens and the beautiful building that gives you a glimpse into the Arabic influence.

We just spent the afternoon and evening strolling through the streets and stopping off at various different cafes and bars to watch the world go by in the beautiful sunshine. A must visit is to Passeig Des Born, which is a tree-lined promenade filled with high end shopping and restaurants. Enjoy a glass of wine (or your favourite tipple), listen to the local musicians playing their guitars and shop until you drop. This is a must area to visit while in Palma city!

We ended the day with a very delicious meal at the Beatnik Palma by Puro. Low lighting, chilled Ibiza music beats in the background and attentive service. Food was DIVINE…. and I would say the best prawns that I have ever had. Beautifully presented and left my taste buds wanting more!! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys great food and atmosphere.

boat trip to see dolphins in the wild

I always LOVE a boat trip when abroad and the one I experienced did not disappoint. It departed from Santa Ponsa in the afternoon and set sail around the coast and then into the middle of the Ocean in search of dolphins in their own natural habitat. After that we sailed to a small bay area where we docked and everyone got off for a swim to see the marine life. They also had a glass bottom part of the boat so any small children or anyone with a fear could still see the fish.

It was such a great experience and to top it off, the staff were so friendly and a lot of fun. They put on music, served great Sangria and got chatting to everyone to get to know them. Would book this again if I returned to Mallorca and recommend to families, couples and solo travellers.

Cuevas del drach

The Caves of Drach, located in Porto Cristo Mallorca, are 25m in depth and are approximately 4km long. They are known to be the largest cave within Europe.

They were first mentioned in a letter dated 1338, however they were not really used until a French geologist E.A Martel came upon it in 1896. The lake at the bottom of the caves were names after him.

The tour of the cave took approximately one hour and the temperature inside was around 20°C.

There is a path that you go walk down and this does consist of a lot of steps, so not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties or wheelchair bound.

As we walked through, we were looking at  a striking underworld full of stalactites and stalagmites.

You see the stunning clear, blue river that takes you to the huge lake-filled cavern.

Once you are at the bottom, you are asked to take a seat which faces the lake to experience a classical concert that takes place on the lake within this natural concert hall. It was a beautiful moment and it certainly gave me Goosebumps as it was so simple but yet an experience I have never done before.

western water park

As you get to know me, you will find out that I am a big kid at heart at times….. which is why I wanted to try out one of the Waterparks on the island.

There were a few to choose from, however we decided on the Western Water Park which is located just outside of Magaluf. It is really easy to get to, either by a local taxi or local bus.

We pre booked our tickets which meant that we avoided the long queues for tickets, so we got straight in there! They hire out lockers for 13 euros (when you return the key you get 5 euros back) and they also have options to pay for fast track bands if the park is particularly busy that day.

There were different sections of the park that offered various slides to suit ages and likes. You had the children section for babies and toddlers to enjoy with small slides and paddling pool areas, there was a section for slightly older children with bigger slides but not the normal size for an adult and then finally, various adult slides that offered fast adrenaline experiences.

There was something for everyone …. and if you felt tired then you could hire a sun lounger for 5 euros for the day to relax in the sun.

When you want to grab a bite to eat, then they do have a food and drinks area which offer soft and alcoholic drinks along with food offerings such as hot dogs, burgers, salads and kids meals. Meals cost around 10-15 euros.

If you’re like me and dread the thought of bringing up my lunch half way down a slide, then I would say make the most of the lazy river. This is the perfect afternoon to enjoy the sunshine and to rest before the adrenaline from the rides begin again.

Overall, a great day out to the waterpark with plenty of slides for all ages, reasonable dining area and a fun day for the whole family. I recommend you get there when they open to avoid long queues or purchase the Fast pass band.

zhero boathouse beach club

Looking for something that offers music but with a chill out vibe by the beach?

Then head over to Zhero Boathouse Beach Club

This is the place where you can enjoy your favourite cocktail or even  better, treat yourself to a bottle of fizz to enjoy with a loved one.

As this was a small beach club, I felt like it had a great chic vibe but it didn’t feel pretentious. All of the staff were friendly and attentive and made great strawberry daiquiris!

The perfect spot if you do not want the madness of the Magaluf bars, however close enough to the beach with music and a great atmosphere.
