day one

Arrive in the afternoon at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar and be greeted by a local guide to receive a transfer to Manggis, in the east of Bali.

En-route make a stop at Goa Lawah Temple. Goa Lawah is one of Bali’s most important temples. It features a complex built around a cave opening that is inhabited by hordes of bats, and its name translates to ‘Bat Cave’. This temple was established in the 11th century by Mpu Kuturan, one of early priests who laid the foundations of Hinduism on the island.

Afterwards, check in at the hotel in Manggis and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Head out for some independent exploration or simply relax at the hotel.

day TWO

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and get ready for a two-hour morning cruise. Hop on Amankila’s boat, a specially-modified  traditional wooden boat equipped with a giant plush mattress on the top deck.  Cast off from the beach out onto the water to witness the island from an entirely different perspective. Marvel at the view from the ocean and majestic mountain ranges with unrivalled views of Mount Agung. 

Then, arrive at a  snorkelling spot and throw on a mask and snorkel before jumping into the water to encounter many colourful fishes and corals.

Return and disembark the boat just in front of the hotel, afternoon at leisure

Early in the evening, get ready for a private satay dinner. Drive to a remote spot in the countryside around 15-minutes drive where a private bale its own chef and waiter are ready to serve a delicious private satay dinner (to be chosen on either of the 3 evenings at this resort).

day THREE

Have an early breakfast and get ready for morning trek to Pura Lempuyang. Pura Lempuyang, literally translated as the ‘highest lantern,’ it’s one of the most important and sacred temples in Bali. From its “instagrammable” entrance resembling a gateway to heaven, panoramic views open up as wide as from the summits of nearby Mount Agung all the way down to the beautiful east coast of Bal. This is a join-in program.

Embark on a 2.5-hour uphill hike on a trail hidden by grasslands and pandan forests. Be rewarded with breathtaking views while enjoying tea or coffee and Balinese snacks served at 1,058 metres above sea level. Receive a blessing from a Balinese Hindu priest. Enjoy more of the lush surroundings while climbing down the 1,700 steps of the path.

From the bottom of Belibis Mountain continue on a short drive to a beautifully situated restaurant for a strengthening Megibung lunch, served in the style of the Royal family of Karangasem.

Notes:

Durable hiking shoes are recommended for the trail, which has some steep and slippery sections.

Not far from here, is Tirta Gangga Water Palace. Founded in the early twentieth century, it’s filled with decorative ponds, natural bathing pools and lush gardens. Stroll across the grounds, learn about the palace’s history and the significance of water in the Hindu religion.

Return to the hotel in Manggis, a Balinese massage (60 minutes) will be provided -the perfect treatment after a long hike.

The remainder of the evening is al leisure.

day FOUR

After breakfast at the hotel, check out and get ready for another day of excitement. Drive to Ulakan Field, where a chopper is waiting for a 105-minute flight with birds-eye view of Bali by helicopter. 

Fly over Besakih Mother Temple on the slopes of Mount Agung and continue to Mount and Batur Lake. Then, fly low over Bali Handara Golf course to see the three breathtaking crater lakes of Bedugul. Continue flying south over the spectacular Jatiluwih Rice Terraces and further south again to Tanah Lot Water Temple. After circling the temple, continue flying to Kuta and the Uluwatu coastline before returning to the lush heart of Bali for a landing in Taro, Ubud.

Continue by car and enjoy a late lunch at a beautifully-situated wellness hotel.

After lunch, continue into a large volcanic caldera and, at the edge of the lava field, climb aboard a custom-made 4WD tour vehicle to drive along the lava field of Mt Batur, which is something that most visitors don’t get the chance to experience. After a memorable adrenaline-filled offroad adventure, hop back into a normal vehicle and drive to Ubud.

day five

Breakfast at the hotel and morning as well as early afternoon at leisure at the hotel.

In the late afternoon, be picked-up by a vintage VW convertible and go on a culinary journey starting at sunset hour over Sayan Valley. Sip a cocktail and enjoy Asian/Latin fusion tapas while the cicadas are chirping in the background. With the evening progressing, take a short ride to Ubud centre and make a stop at Saraswati Palace to watch a traditional dance at the beautiful candle-lit lotus pond.

Continue to the fine dining restaurant under the 350 year-old Javanese building architecture cocooned within a breezy Ubud rice field, enjoy the 3 courses exotic flavor Indonesian Archipelago set menu. Celebrate the end of this evening with a tasting session of sweet delicacies.

Choose to head back to the hotel or remain in the area of Ubud for additional drinks.

day six

After breakfast at the hotel get picked up and drive to Mas village to meet with a traditional shaman for a special Balinese blessing ceremony. Then sit down with an astrologer who uses ancient methods passed down from generation to generation to predict what the future has in store.

Get picked up in the early evening to learn about Indonesia’s history, islands, tribes and nature. Meet Lawrence Blair, one of the greatest adventurers of modern times who has travelled to the wildest and most remote areas of Indonesia and starred in two documentaries about the islands. Together, watch an episode of the ‘Ring of Fire’ or ‘Myth, Magic and Monsters.’ Enjoy a dinner together with the Ubud expat personality at one of his favorite fine dining venues and discuss more details about the travels and adventures of Lawrence Blair and the eastern islands of the archipelago.

day seven

Breakfast at the hotel then depart for a full day exploration of Bali’s lakes and hills. First, stop at the Royal Temple of Mengwi which was built in 1634 to serve as the family temple of the Mengwi dynasty. Admire this stunning piece of historic architecture, surrounded by a moat with multi–roofed Meru shrines and intricately carved wooden gates. Continue driving to Jatiluwih Rice Terrace, a UNESCO-recognised heritage site that’s reknowned for its stunning scenery and Subak irrigation system. Explore the terraces on an e-bike to maximise comfort while also being able to experience the best parts of the region. After a short safety briefing, set off for a one-hour bicycle ride led by an experienced guide. Ride alongside farmers doing their daily routine and stop at Besi Kalung Temple, located in the middle of the rice fields.

Lunch is provided at a local restaurant.

Carry on to Lake Bratan, one of Bedugul’s three natural lakes. Admire the views of the peaceful waters and snap photos of Ulun Danu, an iconic 17th-century temple located on the lake’s edge. Next up is a visit to the traditional market of Bedugul where a myriad of locally-grown fruits, vegetables and orchids are for sale. Browse the stalls alongside the locals and discover spices and herbs used in Balinese cooking.

Having explored the highlights of Balis highlands, continue to South coast to Seminyak.

day EIGHT

Breakfast at the hotel and leisure in Seminyak until early afternoon.

Get ready for a flavourful night out. Get picked up around 17:30 for a Seminyak food tour along the main strip and the hip Petitenget area a long-standing favourite destinations for dining and nightlife in Bali.

When the sun begins to set, head to a stylish rooftop bar on a vintage Vespa to start the evening with a cocktail and magnificent views. After the sun has dipped into the ocean and while the surfers catch their last waves, continue to a chic eatery that combines contemporary international and traditional Indonesian themes. A healthy starter platter is served while outside on one of the busiest streets of Seminyak. Indulge in a bit of people watching as local residents and tourists flock to the diverse dining venues in the area.

Take a short drive to the next stop on this culinary crawl, arriving at a wooden Javanese Joglo house for the main course. Tuck in to a dinner of Nasi Campur, tapas-style Indonesian dishes served around a rice pyramid. Savor the exotic spices and delicate flavors of truly authentic local cuisine. Then it is time for dessert. Step into a stylish lounge set amid the rice paddies where a delicious sweet dessert is served. Soak up the views of the illuminated rice fields while satisfying the sweet tooth. Having tasted the best of Seminyak’s culinary scene, return to the hotel or, for night owls, continue to one of the many bars in the area for a nightcap.

day NINE

Set off this morning for another day of exploration and head for the sun-kissed Bukit Peninsula, home to the important Uluwatu Temple -a mecca for sun worshippers and surfers. Spend the first half of the day at a cool beach club in a hidden cove, accessible only through electric funicular. After soaking up some sun in this tropical locale, lunch is served in the shade.

In the early afternoon, visit the impressive Uluwatu Temple, majestically perched on the edge of a steep cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean. It is one of the key temples believed to be Bali’s spiritual pillars.

Optional: Watch Kecak dance performance (It’s somewhat touristy)

Drive across the peninsula to Padang Padang Beach.  A sundowner is served at a restaurant venue atop the cliffs. From there, panoramic views open up over the long “Impossible” surf break where it’s possible to observe surfers shredding waves at sunset.

Finally, venture to the Jimbaran to experience CUCA Restaurant an Artisanal Tapas Cocktails and dessert place, situated in a leafy coconut grove and beautiful gardens of Jimbaran. Enjoy Chef’s Tasting Meal which specially created by Chef Kevin Cherkas. Be surprised and let the whole dining experience up to the Chef, undoubtedly the best way to enjoy Cuca. It consists of highlights of their menu that best reflects the soul of the restaurant. (Inclusive of a variety of tapas, desserts and their very unique digestives “Cuca brews”)
