LEKKERWATER BEACH LODGE, DE HOOP NATURE RESERVE

Lekkerwater Beach Lodge  is located a three hour car drive from Cape Town International Airport.

Just over three hours drive from Cape Town, in the eastern, most exclusive sector of De Hoop Nature Reserve, is Lekkerwater Beach Lodge at De Hoop. Lekkerwater was selected for its extraordinary beauty and seclusion to be ex-President FW de Klerk’s ‘Camp David’ and today offers a homely and comfortable beach and fynbos experience.

It is set on a five-kilometre stretch of pristine beach, with each of its seven bedrooms with floor-to-ceiling glass windows with verandas for panoramic views, wood burning stoves and homely furnishings. Activities-wise, the lodge offers a wide choice of walks with experienced naturalists, an array of fynbos to be discovered, a plethora of marine life to be explored in the many tidal pools, extensive bird-watching.

Lekkerwater operates guaranteed arrivals every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Kindly note your timings should be such that you arrive at the Lekkerwater Car Park at around 2pm on your arrival day. Here you will be met and transferred the last 6km on rough tracks over the mountain in the lodge’s 4×4. Lekkerwater Beach Lodge itself is not accessible by private

divine dining

Our menus are inspired by the cultures & produce of the region as well as the no-fishing and no-foraging rules that govern the De Hoop Reserve and the marine protected area offshore.

We strive to ensure that we serve fresh, locally produced and farmed products. Home style hearty meals are cooked with love and passion rather than by “fine dining” precision. Environmental laws required the new Lekkerwater to fit into the footprint of FW De Klerk’s original “Camp David” house. We therefore have a very small developmental area and thus limited back of house and storage areas.

In tandem, the lodge operates exclusively on solar electricity which restricts the number of modern, often energy guzzling appliances that we can operate. For this reason we have homely set menus that are down-to earth that we hope you will find to your liking.

The dinner menu will be displayed in the main area from lunch time onwards. If there is something on the menu that you are not comfortable with, please advise our staff as early as possible so that they can prepare an alternative
dish for you.

Please also tell us in advance and remind the chefs and management on your arrival of any dietary
requirements and any food allergies that you may have.

Sip & savour

We have sourced most of our wines from the surrounding Overberg Region, a notable farming and wine producing region that stretches from the Elgin Valley in the west to Swellendam and Malgas in the east. We do our best to keep to our wine list, but it may change from time to time depending on supplies & suggestions. We hope that you will enjoy exploring what the region has to offer.

A wine list can be requested prior to arrival.

Enjoy Sundowners on the beach to end that perfect day.

whale season

If you have always dreamed of seeing a Whale in their natural habitat then this is one of the best places to go during Whale Season. The record number of whales in the De Hoop Bay in front of Lekkerwater has been 1100 whales at any one time – and the lowest has been a few hundred.

The first individual whales start to arrive in mid-May/June and the
last have usually departed by late November.

The best time for whale viewing is from mid-July to October, maybe early November. Outside of these months, marine life is still
abundant with regular viewings of super pods of dolphins so you will not be disappointed.

honeymooners

Lekkerwater is a small, remote, off-the-grid lodge that is  tucked away in an isolated part of the De Hoop Nature Reserve.
The hotel’s focus is on delivering memorable experiences in the beautiful environment and not on the bricks, mortar or gold taps that many larger resort-type hotels and lodges provide.

The facilities and accommodation are perfectly comfortable, it is all about the personal service and experiences. Enjoy a romantic picnic, lunch or dinner on the beach while taking in the breath-taking sea views.

The hotel can organise a cooler box for sundowners over and above
our regular activities and surprises. We will do our upmost to make honeymooner’s stays as memorable as possible.
