Gili Lankanfushi was rated the best hotel in the world on TripAdvisor in 2015 and is still one of the top rated hotels in The Maldives.

You need a week or two to just do justice to the hotel’s array of eating options.

Restaurant on the Beach is a sandy setting for breakfast and dinner, with shaded wooden chairs and tables positioned beneath the palms. Breakfast is a vast spread of pastries, preserves, breads and tropical fruit; dinner on some nights features cooking stations (Asian street market, Mediterranean buffet and so on) and live entertainment.

By the Sea on the sunrise side of the island serves Japanese food (try the crispy soy-braised pork belly). The restaurant is perched high above the beachside forest, with views of the ocean, and boasts a copper-clad sushi and sashimi bar, sake menu and an open kitchen.

At the Over Water Bar, guests can choose from choice cuts of lamb, steak, pork and duck, all cooked on a lava stone grill.

The Over Water Bar Is set over a shallow lagoon with 360-degree views of the Indian Ocean. It’s an idyllic place to admire the sunset. In the middle of the bar, there’s a lowered seating area with a circular cut-out hole where you can see the lagoon below and the marine life swimming by. 

The bar offers a buffet lunch between 12.30pm and 3pm, or you can order pizzas, salads, sushi, burgers and lobster until 6pm. Sip a ginger mint julep (Jim Beam, ginger, lime juice, mint and sugar syrup), or try one of the experimental martinis.

Delve into the magical underwater world with Ocean Paradise Dive Centre – a PADI-certified outlet operating at Gili Lankanfushi.

There are many renowned dive sites, such as Banana, HP or Rainbow Reef, Okobe Thila, Nassimo Thila, Maagiri and Manta Point just a short boat ride away from the resort.

The Multilingual expert instructors run dives in the day and evening and courses for all levels.

Watersports

The blue lagoon surrounding Gili Lankanfushi is the perfect place for water sports such as windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing and paddle-boarding on complimentary basis.

Why not explore the water’s further and pop on your snorkelling mask and pair of fins and head to the 15-metre drop-off zone at the edge of the house reef.  you Can explore the  coral walls and grab a chance to see the turtles and rays.

If power and speed is what you are after, then wakeboarding, water-skiing, fun tubing and private speed boat trips are on offer to experience.

At arm’s length from your spacious villa, sit back and relax on a private water hammock as you bask in the sun, while dipping in the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.

These villas face the West and offer breath-taking sunset views. These thatched one bedroom villas are over two floors and feature an open air living room, spacious bathroom and a rooftop terrace. 

Swim out to your private water hammock. and keep your eye out for eagle rays, reef sharks and shoals of luminescent fish that may pass you by.

These standalone residences are a short hop from the main island, reached by a private boat or resort pontoon. Each is spread over two floors, and has a spacious sun deck with catamaran nets, sunloungers, daybeds and direct access to the ocean; there’s also an idyllic water hammock a short swim from the deck.

The master bedroom has a king-size bed and a semi-open bathroom with a freestanding soaking tub and walk-in rainfall shower. The living room has a seating area, dining table and two daybeds, meaning it can be turned into a second bedroom on request.

On the roof, there’s another private terrace with a daybed and alfresco dining area. Every residence has butler service; free WiFi; a flatscreen TV with on-demand movies; a Bose Bluetooth sound system; a minibar and wine cooler; a Nespresso coffee machine; tea and a kettle; a bamboo bicycle; chess table; and a safe.

Crusoe Residence Island View or sunset view

A short boat ride away from Gili’s main island, these overwater residences are stylish and secluded.

They’re each set over two floors, with a living and dining room, kitchenette, master bedroom with a king-size bed, and an indoor-outdoor bathroom with an alfresco shower overlooking your private water garden and a view-blessed oval bath tub. There’s also a private rooftop terrace, furnished with day-beds and set for romantic meals.

A hammock hangs out over the luminous waters and you can easily get back to the island with your own motorboat, plus you have direct access to the ocean for snorkelling from your sundeck.

You’ll be looked after by your own Mr or Mrs Friday, and you’ll have bikes for use on the island, a chess table, Bluetooth-enabled Bose sound-system, TV with on-demand movies (and a DVD player on request), pre-loaded iPod with dock, free WiFi, mini wine chiller, minibar, Nespresso coffee machine and air-conditioning.

At the far end of the jetty, these villas are angled to get the best of the Maldivian sunrise, and have large sun decks with an L-shaped infinity pool.

In each, the master bedroom has a king-size bed, a daybed and a semi-open bathroom with a freestanding bath tub, walk-in rainfall shower and access to the ocean. The guest bedroom also has a king-size bed and an ensuite bathroom.

The spacious family room has a living area, dining area, pantry and powder room. Out on the deck there are sunloungers, daybeds, catamaran nets and steps to the ocean; there’s also a roof terrace with an alfresco dining area.

This spacious villa is at the end of the jetty and has sweeping sea views and access to a private island cabana.

The villa has an overwater terrace with sunloungers and a semi-alfresco private bathroom with a separate glass-walled shower; on the rooftop terrace there’s a daybed, dining area and a Jacuzzi.

Inside, there are two airy living rooms, each with a dining table and a large day beds; one of the rooms can be converted into a second bedroom with two single beds for little Smiths. In the master bedroom there’s a king-size bed and an ensuite bathroom with a shower. There’s also a kitchenette, satellite TV, mini wine cellar and a fitness area.
