Drive time to Pompei – 35 minutes (31.54km)

POMPEI - 2 days

Resting at the foot of the legendary Mount Vesuvius lies one of the world’s most treasured archaeological sites, the ancient Roman town of Pompeii. The town was buried under ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D, leaving a well-preserved ruin that offers unprecedented insight into Roman life two centuries ago. Clustering alongside its ruined predecessor, the modern-day town of Pompei is often overlooked by tourists. However, for many Italians, it is a sacred place to which millions of pilgrims travel to congregate at Santuario della Madonna del Rosario, the 19th-century basilica in the centre of the new town. The modern town serves as a practical base for exploring the ruins and offers some excellent restaurants specializing in delicious and historically accurate ancient Roman dishes.

Excursion in Pompeii: Guided Tour of Ancient City

Make a day of your outing to the UNESCO-listed ruins of Pompeii with this small-group tour that pairs a guided visit of the site with lunch at a winery on the slopes of Mt. Vesuvius. Delve into the history and fate of the ancient city of Pompeii with an archaeologist guide, then relax over lunch at a nearby cellar to taste a number of wines produced on the volcanic slopes.

Drive time to Sorrento – 50 minutes (28.16km)

SORRENTO - 3 days

Set on a hillside overlooking the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius, Sorrento is a tiny Italian resort town perfectly located for exploring the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Pompeii and the Naples area. However, the little town itself boasts plenty to be discovered. Visitors can enjoy swimming, snorkelling or diving in the sparkling turquoise waters; browsing the maze of shops and stalls full of local craftspeople showing off their skills; or meandering along the unspoiled streets of the old town to discover its wealth of Renaissance palazzi and Romanesque churches. At the heart of the town, the Piazza Tasso perches over a magnificent gorge and is packed with bustling cafes and restaurants serving mouth-watering traditional dishes. The Sorrento locals’ ability to master the fine art of living ‘la dolce vita’ makes Sorrento the ultimate destination for indulgence.

Excursion in Sorrento: Amalfi Coast Premium Boat Tour 

With its crowds and overtaxed public transportation, visiting the Amalfi Coast by land can be a hassle. With this boat tour, take in this beautiful stretch of coastline by sea far from the tourist chaos. Set sail from Sorrento and round Punta Campanella to reach Positano, Conca dei Marini, and Amalfi. Stop to swim and to dock in Positano and Amalfi to sightsee and shop before the return sail to Sorrento.

Drive time to Positano – 25 minutes (13.10km)

POsitano - 3 days

Perched upon a steep hill with panoramic views of the stunning Amalfi Coast, the small romantic town of Positano attracts thousands of visitors year-round. Tourists flock here to enjoy the remarkable natural beauty of the town’s excellent beaches. These include the smaller, secluded and laidback Fornillo beach with its charming little beach bars; the larger bustling ferry port and the main beach of Spiaggia Grande. The town’s premier attraction is undoubtedly the lovely church of Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta, which boasts an impressive majolica dome and the famous thirteenth-century Byzantine icon, the Madonna di Positano. With its rich historical and cultural heritage, its’ upmarket hotels and boutiques and its pleasantly mild climate, Positano is an ideal base for exploring the string of picturesque towns along the Amalfi Coast on the narrow but scenic Amalfi Drive.

Excursion in Positano: Private Capri and Blue Grotto Tour from Positano

With crowded buses and limited taxis, visiting Capri by land can be frustrating and time-consuming. Save hours with this tour that takes you to the island’s top sights via private vehicle. Meet your guide at the ferry port for the drive to the Blue Grotto, followed by a stop in Anacapri. End with free time in Capri town before taking the funicular back down to the ferry port.

Drive time to Amalfi – 45 minutes (18.23km)

AMALFI - 2 days

The peaceful resort town of Amalfi makes an ideal base for travellers looking to explore the numerous natural wonders and the lovely little towns dotted along the famed Amalfi Coast. The town begins right at the water’s edge with a picturesque promenade along the Mediterranean and a marina full of colorful boats. Narrow streets wind up the hillside featuring a cluster of distinctive white houses connected to one another by covered alleys and stairways. The heart of the town is the Piazza del Duomo where you will find sidewalk cafes and elegant shops as well as the beautiful Cathedral of St. Andrew, with its impressive staircase, a bell-tower in Arab-Norman style and the charming Cloister of Paradise. Other must-see sights include The Paper Mill Museum and The Museo Arsenale Amalfi, a medieval shipyard-turned-exhibition space.

Excursion in Amalfi: Amalfi boat rental no license 

Escape the crowds and traffic on land and instead explore the Amalfi Coast by sea with this independent boat rental, no boating license required. Cruise along the coastline in complete freedom and privacy, stopping to take a dip or admire the view when and where you want. Skirt past the towns of Positano and Praiano, marvel at the Furore Fjord, and swim off the Li Galli Islets.
